Terry Dougherty joins College Settlement as New Executive Director

We are delighted to announce that Terry Dougherty will join College Settlement as our new Executive Director. Her first day will be Monday, October 21.

Terry has over 20 years of experience in leadership roles in academic recreation programs, with her overall career dedicated to supporting youth. Our Executive Director Search Committee was especially impressed by Terry’s time as Executive Director of Philadelphia City Rowing (PCR). In her seven years there, Terry grew the PCR program from 300 to 1200 students, formed relationships with a range of schools in Philadelphia, and expanded beyond high school students to a middle school program. Through Terry’s leadership and the support of her small staff, PCR kids, most of whom are economically disadvantaged, had the opportunity to experience – and succeed in – a sport many had never previously heard about… and their confidence soared.

Terry is thrilled to be joining College Settlement, and we are equally excited to welcome her. The board presidents will be working with Terry over the coming weeks on priority setting, and Terry will also be meeting with staff and key stakeholders to gain their insights and feedback. Terry will be introduced at our 7th Annual Acorns to Oaks Gala on November 9.

We would also be remiss if we didn’t thank our Camp Director Karyn Bonner and Director of Development Susan Daily for serving as Co-Executive Directors for the past several months, and also all of the College Settlement staff who seamlessly delivered another incredible summer for the children, kicked off a very busy Outdoor School season, and otherwise kept operations flowing. They are the heartbeat of this organization.

This hiring process has been a long but important one, and we thank you for ongoing support and commitment. We think you will enjoy getting to know Terry as she leads College Settlement into its next chapter. Please join us in welcoming her.
