“Favorite Field Trip Ever!”
Kids get a chance to learn while never sitting still!!
If your child is coming to College Settlement Outdoor School for a field trip, they have a wonderful, busy, exciting program ahead of them.
Students will participate in small group lessons and activities that are hands-on, engaging and allow them to explore and discover. Our Teacher Naturalist staff leads students through activities that focus on cooperation, fun, respect, and applying knowledge learned in the classroom. Students are kept engaged as they show their leadership abilities and work through team challenges. Abstract classroom science concepts come to life as students discover the wealth of animals and plants right here in our steams and forests. Our beautiful 235-acre camp has ample open space for large groups, wetlands, creeks, a pond, beautiful meadows, and lots of great forest. We also lease 20 acres of land to our partner Pennypack Farm, an organic Community Sponsored Agriculture farming facility that we use to teach amazing farm lessons. We also have an environmental center with many great displays, and our own camp critters.
With several large pavilions, two dining halls and many great large and small lesson spots, we have plenty of areas to take learning outdoors and bring it all to life!
Day Trip Programs
Day trips are fast paced and jam-packed with activities. A typical day trip typically includes two hours at the team building course tackling small group challenges, a picnic lunch, then one or two environmental activity options such as visiting Pennypack Farm, shelter building, animal tracking, or meeting the camp critters at our environmental center. Most day trips are scheduled around bus availability. Students usually spend 9:30 am to 2:15 pm at our site. Some schools stay with us for extended day trips and enjoy dinner with us before heading home around 8:00 pm.

We offer two-day trips (spend one night at camp) or three-day trips (with 2 nights at camp). Overnight trips include a customized selection of activities that combines group challenges, environmental education, and incredible learning opportunities that capture those “intangibles” such as being away overnight with your best friends. Here are two sample schedules:
